Disabling the Front Row along with the Shortcut in Mac OS

The Front Row is media software of the Macintosh which helps in browsing videos, music and other files related to media. Though this is an essential there are many who regret its presence. To get rid of this application this post has been written.

The Front Row software was introduced in 2005 by the iMacG5 which soon became popular and was packaged with other applications. Usually this application is operated through an Apple remote. Through this you can browse just like an Apple TV. At first it seemed like a good idea and therefore Apple made a decision to upgrade it even further. However later it realized that many people were not interested in this and they were even annoyed when the application was accidentally activated.

If you are an Apple user and you have probably activated this application by mistake then this is the time to learn the disabling method. There are three methods incorporated here. Every one of them works fine.

Disabling Front Row through a ShortCut

The most annoying feature of this application is the ease with which it can be activated mistakenly. If you are so much annoyed by the keyboard shortcut that activates this application then all you have to do is to go the Keyboard tab. From there you will have to choose the ‘Front Row’ and uncheck the box that says ‘hide and show Front Row’.

Turning off the Remote of Front Row

Are you using the Apple TV and the Macintosh in the same room? Then it is definite that you will have trouble with the remote as the Front Row will be activated through the remote. The best way to avoid this accident is by turning off the infra red receiver of your remote. Go to System Preference>Security tab> General tab. Check the box that says ‘Disable infrared receiver remote control’. However you might be asked the password first. Click on the lock icon in the lower left tab and the entering it in.

Uninstalling the Front Row

If you are never going to use this application and would want to get rid of the Front Row completely then uninstalling will end the problem forever. Navigate to this folder by using Finder /System/Library/CoreServices. If you are unsure about how to reach at this destination, then go to folder and paste the below code:  /System/Library/CoreServices. Once you are there you will see Front Row. Move it to the Trash to uninstall.
